Who is this for

These cable ties are used by electricians, maintenance technicians, safety officers, and site workers for a wide range of tag attachment and bundling tasks in LOTO, test and tag, and general site safety applications. In a lockout tagout context, cable ties provide a quick and secure method of attaching danger or out-of-service tags to isolation points, valve handles, and equipment controls where a string or eyelet attachment is not practical. They are also used for bundling cables and leads on construction and industrial sites, securing safety signage to fences and mesh, and general site housekeeping tasks. The 300mm length and 4.8mm width provide a versatile, strong tie suitable for most site applications, and the 100-pack quantity suits regular use in maintenance departments and site stores.

Frequently asked questions

What is a LOTO hasp, and when do I need one?

A lockout hasp is a device that allows multiple padlocks to be applied to a single isolation point simultaneously. It clips onto a circuit breaker, valve, or switch, and has multiple holes along its bar so that each worker involved in the job can apply their own individual padlock. The isolated equipment cannot be re energised until every padlock has been removed, meaning every worker must personally confirm they are clear before power can be restored. This is essential for group isolation procedures where more than one person is working on the same equipment. Brute Safety Products stocks a 25 mm metal hasp, a 38 mm metal hasp for heavier isolators, and a 27 mm nylon hasp as a lighter weight option.

What size circuit breaker lockout device do I need?

Choosing the right circuit breaker lockout device depends on the width and pole configuration of the breaker you need to isolate. The 44 mm single pole devices (BLT 008 and BLT 009, available in red and yellow) fit standard single pole MCBs. The 49 mm two to four pole devices (BLT 010 and BLT 011, available in red and blue) are designed to cover wider multi pole breakers. Each device clips over the breaker toggle to physically prevent it from being switched on, and includes a hole for a padlock to secure it in place. If you are unsure which device suits your switchboard, check the breaker width in millimetres before ordering. Contact the team if you need guidance on a specific panel type.

What does "keyed different" mean on a LOTO padlock, and why does it matter?

Keyed different means every padlock in the range has its own unique key. No two padlocks share a key, so only the worker who applied a lock can remove it. This is a fundamental requirement of a sound lockout tagout procedure, because it guarantees that an isolated piece of equipment cannot be re energised by anyone other than the person who placed the lock. It also creates a clear chain of accountability: if a padlock is still on an isolator at the end of a shift, you know exactly whose lock it is and who needs to be contacted before work can resume. All Brute Safety Products LOTO padlocks are keyed different as standard and carry an etched serial number for traceability.

Is lockout tagout legally required in Australia, and which standard applies?

Yes. Lockout tagout procedures are required under Australian WHS legislation whenever hazardous energy needs to be controlled during maintenance, repair, or cleaning of plant and equipment. The primary standard is AS 4024.1603, which sets out requirements for the design and use of safeguarding systems including energy isolation. In addition, AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 3012 apply to electrical isolation in fixed and construction wiring. Most state and territory WHS regulations require persons conducting a business or undertaking to have documented isolation procedures and to provide appropriate equipment to workers. Using keyed different padlocks, hasps, and circuit breaker lockout devices that comply with the relevant standard is the most direct way to demonstrate that your isolation system meets the legal requirement.

What are LOTO padlocks made from, and are they safe for use on electrical equipment?

The LOTO padlocks are constructed with a non conductive nylon body, which is specifically chosen for use on electrical isolation points where a metal body would create a shock risk. The nylon casing also resists corrosion, making these padlocks suitable for outdoor use and in environments exposed to moisture or mild chemicals. Each padlock measures approximately 83 x 38 to 40 mm and includes a writable identification panel so workers can mark their name or employee number directly on the lock. The padlocks comply with AS 4024.1603, which is the relevant Australian standard for safeguarding machinery and energy isolation equipment.
