JB's Power Spec Smoke Lens Safety Glasses are used by outdoor workers, concreters, civil labourers, road workers, landscapers, and tradespeople who work in bright sunlight conditions where glare is a comfort and fatigue issue during extended outdoor shifts. The smoke-tinted single-piece polycarbonate lens reduces glare while maintaining compliance with AS/NZS 1337.1 for medium impact eye protection, making them a practical choice for outdoor work where both sun management and safety compliance are required in the same garment. The same lightweight, side-ventilated, distortion-free construction as the clear lens version ensures comfort during extended wear in warm outdoor conditions.

Frequently asked questions

What eye protection does Brute Safety Products supply?

We supply a range of eye protection certified to AS/NZS 1337.1, including the JB's Power Spec safety glasses in clear and smoke lens, the JB's Clear Vented Safety Goggle, a JB's Goggle and Mask Combination with a detachable lower mask, and a Tinted Brow Guard and Face Shield with a 2mm polycarbonate visor rated to welding shade 5. Safety glasses suit general purpose use and protection from flying debris. Goggles provide a sealed fit better suited to dust, liquid splash, or chemical exposure. The face shield offers full face coverage for grinding, welding preparation, or other tasks involving significant splash or particle hazard.

Can safety glasses and goggles be worn over prescription glasses?

Our vented safety goggles are designed with enough internal space to be worn comfortably over standard prescription glasses, making them a practical option for workers who cannot wear contact lenses on site. Our safety glasses are not designed specifically as over glasses, so fit over prescription frames will vary depending on frame size. If you have workers who require over prescription protection, we recommend the vented goggle as the more reliable option. If you are unsure about compatibility, get in touch and we can advise based on your specific situation.

When should workers use a face shield rather than safety glasses or goggles?

A face shield provides protection to the entire face rather than just the eyes, and is appropriate when the task involves a risk of splash, projection, or heat that could affect the face more broadly. Typical applications include angle grinding, cutting, chemical decanting, and welding preparation work. Our Tinted Brow Guard and Face Shield features a 2mm polycarbonate visor with a welding shade 5 tint, making it suitable for tasks with significant glare or light intensity as well as particle and splash hazards. A face shield is generally worn in addition to safety glasses or goggles rather than as a replacement for them, as it does not provide the same sealed eye protection that goggles offer.

What is the difference between safety glasses and safety goggles, and which do I need?

Safety glasses sit in front of the eyes with side arms, similar to standard glasses, and provide good protection against flying debris, dust, and impact from the front and sides. They are the right choice for most general construction and industrial tasks. Safety goggles form a sealed enclosure around the eye, which prevents fine dust, liquids, or chemicals from reaching the eye from any direction. They are better suited to tasks involving chemical handling, concrete grinding, pouring, or any environment with significant airborne particles or splash risk. If workers wear prescription glasses, goggles that fit over them are worth considering. Both our glasses and goggles are certified to AS/NZS 1337.1.
