SLC80 stands for Sound Level Conversion at the 80th percentile, and it is the Australian standard measure of how much noise a hearing protector reduces for the wearer. Our earplugs carry an SLC80 rating of 27dB and our ear muffs 29dB, meaning they reduce the noise reaching the wearer's ear by those amounts under real wearing conditions. To choose the right level of protection, you need to know the noise level of your work environment, typically measured in decibels. Australian WHS regulations require hearing protection when noise levels exceed 85dB averaged over an eight hour shift, or reach 140dB as a peak.
